Tattoo removal
Tattoo removal with Pico Laser (picosecond) technology, including difficult colours.
Tattoo removal is now possible with significant results thanks to laser technology. At Skinfarm Medical Center we use Pico Laser (picosecond) technology, which fragments the pigments of professional and amateur tattoos and also acts on difficult colours.
The Pico laser acts with extremely short pulses — in the order of picoseconds — that shatter pigment particles into microscopic fragments, which are then naturally eliminated by the body. Compared to traditional nanosecond lasers, the Pico works with shorter pulses and on average requires fewer sessions on difficult colours (green, blue, yellow). The number of sessions and the result are assessed case by case.
The number of sessions required depends on several factors: the age of the tattoo, its size, the colors used, the depth of the pigment, and skin type. A preliminary evaluation is essential to estimate the treatment course and correctly manage expectations.
Between sessions an interval of at least 6–8 weeks must be respected, to allow the body to eliminate pigment fragments and the skin to heal completely. Accelerating the timing does not improve results and may increase the risk of unwanted effects.
Not all tattoos are the same
Professional, amateur, coloured, black, recent or old tattoos require different protocols. A preliminary assessment is essential to understand what to realistically expect, how many sessions will be needed and whether complete removal or only fading is achievable.
How it shows
- Professional tattoo you wish to completely remove
- Amateur tattoo with irregular inks
- Coloured tattoos (green, blue, red, yellow) difficult to treat with standard lasers
- Correction or cover-up of an existing tattoo
- Faded tattoos or with blurred outlines over time
How we proceed
- 1Preliminary assessment: tattoo analysis, colours and skin type
- 2Session number estimate and expected result
- 3First Pico laser session: treatment with pain management if needed
- 4Interval of 6–8 weeks: the body eliminates pigment fragments
- 5Further sessions until desired result or complete removal
Available treatments

- Preliminary evaluation
- Black tattoo treatment
- Difficult colour treatment

Frequently asked questions
Does Pico laser remove coloured tattoos too?+
Yes. Pico laser also acts on difficult colours such as green, blue and yellow, which traditional nanosecond lasers struggle to treat. Black and dark shades generally respond better and more quickly.
How many sessions are needed to remove a tattoo?+
On average between 5 and 12 sessions, depending on size, colours, depth and age of the tattoo. Amateur tattoos tend to require fewer sessions than professional ones, because the pigment is more superficial and less concentrated.
Does tattoo removal hurt?+
The sensation during laser is comparable to small snaps on the skin. Pain level depends on the area, size and individual sensitivity. In more sensitive areas or for longer sessions, a topical anaesthetic cream can be applied before treatment.
Can a tattoo be completely removed?+
In most cases yes, especially for black tattoos and dark inks. For difficult colours or very elaborate tattoos, the goal may be significant fading rather than total removal. The preliminary assessment is precisely for defining realistic expectations.
